How do I evolve my Eevee into Umbreon after I stopped it from evolving into Sylveon?

Question

(Pokemon sun, the eevee has full hearts and level 26, no fairy move and male. I want an umbreon)

I stopped my eevee from evolving because it knew a fairy move and I didn’t want it to evolve into sylveon, I now want it to evolve and it won’t. What do I do?

Have you tried leveling it up at night with high friendship? The hearts are different than friendship in gen 7 I think.

Remove the fairy move from it via TM, Move Deleter, or level up moves. Than just evolve at night with high friendship.

The hearts mean affection, which is different than Friendship in Gen VII onwards. They affect Sylveon, who evolves by affection, and not Umbreon, who evolves by friendship. Friendship is a hidden value. After spending enough time battling with Eevee, giving it the Soothe Bell to hold, or giving it massages, it will have high enough friendship to evolve into Umbreon

The requirements for evolving Eevee into Sylveon and Umbreon in SM are:

• Sylveon: Level up with 2+ Refresh hearts and a Fairy-type move known
• Umbreon: Level up at night with 220+ friendship

You seem to have conflated affection (measured in Refresh hearts) and friendship (a separate mechanic that is mostly hidden from the player). Only friendship, not affection, will evolve Eevee into Umbreon so it's likely yours doesn't have enough friendship.

In SM, you can get an approximation of your Pokemon's friendship from the friendship checker in Konikoni City. Since the minimum of 220 isn't a breakpoint for the friendship checker's result, you can't always know for sure whether your Pokemon has enough. In normal circumstances, Eevee starts on 70 friendship in SM.

This Bulbapedia article shows how to increase friendship. The fastest method is to stockpile EV-reducing berries using Isle Aplenny, but levelling up is also good if you've completed the game and can get a bunch of levels quickly.

Sylveon takes priority over Espeon/Umbreon, so you'd need to forgot whatever Fairy move Eevee has to evolve it into the latter two Pokémon.

It tried evolving before but I stopped it because it knew a fairy move. I have since then taken off the fairy move. I tried evolving it at night with high friendship (it was the first thing I tried) how do I check friendship and not affection?
