Can HGSS still trade between DPP on wireless communications if you have a 3ds and a DS lite?

Question

basically can you trade between consoles in gen 4 on wireless. I'm using a 3ds with heartgold and a DS lite with platinum. I'm using the union room on wireless and it's not working

How is it not working? Are you able to get into the Union Room?
Make sure your wireless connection is on, and out your consoles together.
Are your sure your games are authentic? Your HGSS is a black cart?

Yes.

All versions of the DS and 3DS can trade with each other in all games where it's applicable.

Make sure you have your wireless capabilities turned on on both consoles. On your 3DS you should have a wireless switch on the right side of your console similar to your volume switch. For the DS Lite go to System Settings and make sure wireless communication is turned on.
