I tested it by battling myself

I tested Max Flare, Max Steelspike, Max Darkness, and G-max Volt Crash. Max Flare set up sun, Max Steelspike rose the Pikachu's defense, Max Darkness lowered Shuckle's Special Defense, and G-max Volt Crash paralyzed Shuckle.
