Well...

  • Tanks
Tanks are Pokemon that can hit hard and still take a hit. A good example would be Snorlax. It has high base Attack and Defense.

  • Walls
Walls are Pokemon that take hits for the team. Deoxys-Defense is a good example. it has very high Defense and Special Defense, and it can use moves like Stealth Rock and Toxic to "set up". It can also support the team by using Light Screen and Reflect. It basically doesn't attack, but you can switch it into an enemy's attack when another Poke'mon's HP is low.

  • Sweepers
Sweepers are fast Pokemon with high Attack or Special Attack. They tend to have low defenses, but they make up for it by being the team's main attackers. It can be hard to stop a sweeper once it sets up with an Attack and/or Speed raising move. Some examples are Salamence and Zoroark.

  • Hazard Setter
A hazard setter has one purpose. To set up hazards, such as Stealth Rock, Spikes, Toxic Spikes, etc. Ferrothorn is a good example, and so is Forretress.

  • Spinner
A spinner uses the move Rapid Spin to clear away hazards that would damage your Pokemon and ruin Focus Sash strategies. Forretress and Starmie are common spinners.

  • Spin Blocker
A spin blocker is a Ghost Type that prevents a spinner from using Rapid Spin. For example, you send out Forretress, and so does your opponent. You both set up hazards, and then you decide it's time to clear your opponent's hazards away. Your opponent predicts this and sends in Giratina. Since it's a Ghost Type, Rapid Spin has no effect, and the hazards remain.

  • Lead
A lead Pokemon is the first one you send into battle. It can be a hazard setter, a sweeper, anything. It really depends on your strategy.

If there are any other roles your would like to know about, please ask!
