July 15th, 2021 - The Run Begins
As you can expect, I skipped a lot. Actually, I skipped up until you fight the Empire for the frozen esper. Why is it titled The Run Begins, then? Simple. This is the first chance to use Gau all on his own. Since this is a Gau-only run, at least in every chance that the game lets me, the run has really just begun. Just a note, I believe he's learned the rages of every monster at this point, minus Darkside, Specter, and Eukaryote, because I was lazy and bored and didn't wait for the dang formation to pop up. I tried, I gave up. I'll go back to that later. In any case, I split into three parties: one party was Edgar, Celes, and Sabin, the other was Terra, Cyan, and Locke, and the last one was Gau. Just Gau. Big surprise. In any case, here's how it went:
Using the other parties as Banon's loyal body shields, I sent Gau off to fight everything. I started out using the Cloud rage, but realized that Guard Leader was better. It defeated Corporal x4 with one hit. It couldn't defeat Fidor, Corporal in one Wind Slash, however, as the Fidor kept living. Of course, it wasn't hard to finish off. I was a klutz battling that formation and poor Gau nearly died, but two Hi-Potions solved that problem. I fought those bloody formations a few times and it got boring. Then I took on Hell's Rider and he died because his HP was low. Man, I wish he could learn Ultima this early on. Of course, he restarted where the save point used to be with 1 HP and I fully healed him. Then he went back to tearing through Corporal x4. But then he encountered a formation I really wanted: Hunting Hound, Corporal x2. I don't think you can fight Hunting Hounds anywhere else, so that ended well. He tore through that formation as well. But then he didn't use Wind Slash and ended up killed by Corporal x4. Jerks ganged up on him. Since he just ended up back at the former save point spot, little harm was done. Terra and the gang ended up fighting Hunting Hound, Corporal x2 and Terra was killed with ease. The scrawny little wimp dies faster than the feral boy. What about that. Gau went up against Corporal x4 and I clicked the Guard rage by accident. However, he defeated the Corporals, even though it took longer. I got back to the right rage afterward and he killed more Corporals. Fun. Then he took on Heavy Armor, Corporal x2 and Wind Slashed the frick out of them. Gau tore through some more lameheads and took on Hell's Rider again. I switched to the Stray Cat rage, and the jerk fell to an attack and two Cat Scratches. Then it was time for Kefka, also known as Steroid Demon Clown Man. Poor Gau Cat Scratched him twice, got killed by Blizzara after being whittled down a little, and had to retry. I realized I hadn't given him any Relics like a dunce and gave him White Cape and Black Belt. White Cape's Defense, Magic Defense, and Magic Evasion boosts were welcome, and Black Belt was fun for countering physical attacks that Kefka fired at him. Terra's party ended up having to battle Hunting Hound, Corporal x2 and did a shabby job as usual as Gau went charging at Kefka. But before I could take two breaths, Edgar's party had to beat up Corporal x4. They honestly didn't do too great, but I forgot to use Edgar's Auto Crossbow so that didn't help. With Banon safe and I believe everything killed, I healed up Gau and took on Kefka again. I nearly jumped out of my skin and my heart skipped a beat when the music seemed to start from the point where Gau had died. I clicked the Guard rage again and would've facepalmed. Kefka used Thunder, which hurt, and tried to confuse Gau, which failed. Gau countered a few attacks and used Critical a few times, and Kefka died. Then Kefka ran off like a little wimp. By the end of it, Gau went up 2 Levels, ending up Level 16. After that, the esper went glowy glow, which should totally have been the name of Partner Eevee's Glitzy Glow, and magical wavey thingy happened. Everyone got knocked over but Terra, and Gau casually held onto the cliff by one hand looking like he didn't give a frick. Then Terra turned to a funny-looking pink thing and flew around like a lunatic. Then Locke woke up in a bed and Celes babbled about Terra looking like an esper. For heck's sake, I just want to kill everything with Gau instead of watching you go blah blah scream saddeth. "Something happened to Terra..." Ya think, Edgar? Eventually, I was able to choose my dang party. I decided on Gau, no one, no one, and no one. Then I bought a Mythril Shield and apparently a Green Beret is a better armor than an Iron Helm. Yeah, because that makes sense. Getting to Figaro was easy as frick, and Kohlingen was the next step. Vroom vroom, castle under the sand! Then I realized that the enemies in the area didn't like me much. Vulture, Bloodfang x2 tore through about 400 HP, but Vulture x2 wasn't very bad. Then I dropped by a crummy little house where the guy living there said that people shine their brightest when they're at war. Yeah, Gau shines really bright. But that might just be the Ultima he plans to kill you with. Man, I want Ultima. And I couldn't even sleep in that dang bed to heal my HP and stuff. At least I came out of it with a Hero's Ring. Then I stumbled across a Chocobo Stable and decided to save that for a moment. Why? So I could fight Iron Fist x2, Rock Wasp x2 of course. Tore through 'em with Wind Slash. Good boy, Gau. Paraladia, Vulture, Iron Fist wasn't very hard either, though Shamshir cut down Gau's HP more than I'd like. But it was time for a chocobo ride, which is really much smoother in the SNES version! I ended up in Jidoor but then realized that I should be going to Zozo. So I hopped on another chocobo and made it to Zozo. But then he was killed by Gobbledygook x4. Sad. He could really use some Ultima right about now.
