Choice Scarf on a Pokémon with Volt Switch? I thought the whole point of the switching moves was to scout and escape, not be the only move you use?

This is a gimmicky set I made up on the spot that I am going to be testing out very soon.

Rotom @ King's Rock / Scope Lens
Nature: Timid
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SpA / 252 Spe

  • Thunderbolt
  • Will-O-Wisp
  • Light Screen
  • Shadow Ball

With Will-O-Wisp and Light Screen, you can really buff up Rotom, and you can aim to flinch your opponent multiple times while racking up burn damage.

Solid set idea. (havent looked at moves so probably not correct here) do you think you could add a trapping move/item to keep them in and suffering?

Rotom @ Life Orb / Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Modest Nature
- Electro Ball (STAB+works well with high Speed)
- Volt Switch (Pivot)
- Shadow Ball (STAB+Ghost coverage)
- Signal Beam (Dark coverage)

Or, here is another moveset for a different strategy:

Electro Ball (Reasons above)
Confuse Ray (Confusion+Hex)
Hex (STAB+Works well with confusion)
Signal Beam (Reasons above)

Gen 8 ZU Choice Scarf

Rotom @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Volt Switch
- Shadow Ball
- Trick

With Rotom's base 91 speed and STAB combination that is nearly unresisted in Gen 8 ZU, Rotom makes for a good Choice Scarf user. Volt Switch allows Rotom to switch against Pokemon it cannot beat while dealing chip damage to those Pokemon. Trick allows Rotom to screw up checks such as Stunfisk, Galarian Stunfisk, Altaria, Piloswine, and Appletun by giving them Choice Scarf so they won't have their useful item.

Gen 8 ZU

Rotom @ Heavy-Duty Boots / Leftovers
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
IVs: 0 Atk
- Thunderbolt
- Shadow Ball
- Volt Switch / Substitute
- Nasty Plot

Nasty Plot set. Nasty Plot boots your special attack. Thunderbolt and Shadow Ball are STAB moves. Volt Switch is also STAB and is used for pivoting. Substitute can be used instead to help avoid status amd can help you set up Nasty Plot.

Rotom @ Assault Vest / Choice Scarf
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 Spe / 252 SpA / 4 HP
Timid Nature

  • Thunderbolt
  • Shadow Ball
  • Signal Beam
  • Volt Switch

Thunderbolt and Shadow Ball are good STAB moves that have a solid base power (also the Sp. Defense drop on Shadow Ball and Para on Thunderbolt). Signal Beam for Dark Type coverage and Volt Switch in case things get ugly. This way, every weakness is covered and if you use Choice Scarf, that's an extra speed boost.
