Groudon @ Choice Specs
Ability: Drought
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpA
Brave Nature
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Solar Beam
- Fire Blast

Designed to Wallbreak.
Attack is 438, and SpA is 448.
Earthquake is very good STAB.
Stone Edge hits the likes of Lugia and Ho-Oh and formes EdgeQuake combo.
Solar Beam hits from the special side, and complements Fire Blast well. For once, Groudon can actually use Solar Beam.
Don't spam it mindlessly though, be very cautious when using it. You do NOT want to use it on a Kyogre switch in.
Fire Blast gets psuedo STAB and roasts any Skarmory trying to ruin the day. Also Ferrothorn and Forretress.
EVs give Groudon maximum offensive potential while Brave is chosen to make the Attacking stats more even and to not lower any of its defenses.

it has choice specs.
Why did you make it a mixed attacker with choice specs? Specs are good on Kyogre and not Groudon.
I'm pretty sure Precipice Blades was introduced in Generation 6, and this answer was posted in 2011 so at that time, Groudon couldn't have Precipice Blades...Please correct me if I'm wrong.
@Midnight_X_Twice https://pokemondb.net/move/precipice-blades Yeah, it was introduced in Gen 6.

Gen 5 Double Dancing Groudon set.

enter image description here

Thuggish (Groudon) @ Leftovers
Ability: Drought
EVs: 248 HP / 28 Atk / 64 Def / 160 SpD / 8 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Swords Dance
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Rock Polish

There’s a chance you’re looking at this set going “Wtf is this guy smoking” and I swear I can answer that. I started out by wanting to build a sun team, but I also wanted a Groudon that could take hits. The first thing I knew was that I would need a Max HP, so 252 HP was entered. Then, I figured I would need some SpD to tank some of those powerful hits from the Uber tier. I went to the calcs and started boosting the SpD until I was happy with the result, 160 provided me with good breathing room and survivability.

I knew I would need some Def EVs as well, otherwise powerful physical attackers like Band Ho-Oh and Excadrill would still give me issues. Knowing I wouldn’t need as many Def EVs as SpD EVs, I worked it out the same way. Increasing the Defense until I was happy with the hits Groudon could take. I then dumped the rest in Attack, and slapped an Adamant Nature on him. With this spread however, I wasn’t sure what kind of moveset would work well, I originally thought Band, but SteelJackal suggested that with this spread I could easily get away with Double Dancing Groudon.

So I adjusted the moveset and went to test. First game he swept the opponent’s team. I was flabbergasted. But I knew that the set was definitely not perfect, as I’m still a n00b, so I asked Sweep what he thought. He said two things, “Always speed creep”, and, “248 HP so you have an odd number for HP”. And so I took 4 Atk EVs and 4 HP EVs and threw them in Speed. After a couple weeks of using the team, I was facing someone with a Latios. I was at +2 and +2, all set to sweep. Latios survived Stone Edge with 0.3%...
So I took 4 Def and put them in Attack. The spread was perfected as much as possible.

Rock Polish and Swords Dance are my stat boosters, and it isn’t too difficult to set them up on most leads. Darkrai can provide issues with Dark Void, but I can normally deal with that just fine. The most trouble I have is against Defensive walls who can afford to switch in on +2 EQ and the next turn phaze me. Hippowdon is an example of this. SpD Giratina-A is 2HKO by +2 EQ as are Kyogre, Mewtwo, Palkia, Espeon, and several other common Uber Pokemon.

Stone Edge completes the EdgeQuake combo, and works beauties against the Lati twins, Xatu, Ho-Oh, Tornadus, Landorus, and Shaymin. It gets a OHKO on all of them, except Landorus who takes hefty damage from it (when it hits). Groudon himself doesn’t utilize the sun much, except to assist in his survival. ScarfPalkia under sun gets a 3HKO with Spacial Rend, which hits harder than Hydro Pump (sun). Kyogre locked into Ice Beam (who stupidly stays in) will get a 2HKO if Specs and 3HKO is Scarfed. PsychoKiller Mewtwo gets a 2HKO with Ice Beam. Excadrill under sun falls to Groudon.

Under sand Groudon can tank +2 EQ then retaliate in kind with a OHKO. If the opponent is running some gimmick like BalloonExcadrill, then Groudon still has the upper hand (seeing that Groudon being in will almost guarantee that I have weather), but as Excadrill can’t do enough damage without +2 I still take the day with Stone Edge to pop the balloon and then KO with EQ. I could continue talking about Groudon, but I think you get the gist. I’ll continue with the team.

Here are some calcs, gonna link it because I don't wanna jump the character limit.

Primal Groudon is a beast. Now that its a Fire/Ground Type, it is immune to Will'O'Wisp!

Groudon @ Red Orb
Ability: Drought
EVs: 128 HP / 252 Atk / 128 Spe
Adamant / Naughty Nature
-Precipice Blades / Earthquake
-Stone Edge
-Fire Punch / Overheat / Fire Blast
-Rock Polish

Primal Groudon's Ability, Desolate Land, makes water type moves fail, basically making it a solid switch into Kyogre (Primal). It has such great bulk that setting up a Rock Polish can be done pretty easily, then you can proceed to sweep from there. 128 Speed EVs are to outspeed base 100 Choice Scarf users (Palkia) after a Rock Polish, the rest are put into HP for added bulk.

Precipice Blades is STAB with 120 Base Power, but if you fear the miss, you can always run good ol' Earthquake. Stone Edge is for the famed EdgeQuake coverage, and Fire Punch for another STAB. Overheat or Fire Blast coming off base 150 Special Attack (Same as Kyogre!) fries any Landorus/Gliscor/Skarmory/Scizor coming to try walling you.

I'm surprised there isn't a Groudon dynamax sweeper set!
Gen 8 AG
Groudon @ Life Orb
Ability: Drought
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe
Jolly Nature
- Swords Dance
- Precipice Blades
- Stone Edge
- Aerial Ace
Aerial Ace boosts speed in dynamax, Swords Dance helps it do more damage, Precipice Blades is STAB, and Stone Edge forms the EdgeQuake combo.

Groudon @ Assault Vest
Ability: Drought
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Def
Adamant Nature
- Eruption
- Earthquake
- Dragon Tail
- Solar Beam

I hate Groudon but here's a (Good) set for him to use!
Eruption deals more damage due too sunny day (Unfortunatly no STAB like Kyogre)
Earthquake STAB, that's all you really need to know
Dragon Tail is a wierd move no one likes but I adore it, it might always hit last but if there's a Pokemon you don't want on the field you could Tail him away (this is very optional if you don't like this you can just change it :D)
Solar Beam Well... Well.... Uh ... IDK...

Try Adamant and physical tank.

Everyone loves to use Primal Groudon as a sweeper or a bulky offensive Stealth Rock setter. However, this set will be a defensive one.

National Dex AG

Groudon-Primal @ Red Orb
Ability: Desolate Land
EVs: 252 HP / 32 Def / 224 SpD
Careful / Calm Nature
- Precipice Blades / Earthquake / Lava Plume / Overheat
- Toxic
- Rest
- Stealth Rock

The first slot goes to Ground STAB, because without it, Primal Groudon loses to pretty much every defensive Arceus form, since many of them use Refresh. You can also use Overheat to do big damage (especially to defensive Dusk Mane), or Lava Plume to fish for burns (but Refresh Arceus still beats Lava Plume variants). Precipice Blades for the power, Earthquake for the consistency. Toxic puts the enemy on the timer and also cripples Flying types who want to switch into your Ground STAB. Rest is recovery and lets Primal Groudon heal from Toxic. The forced sleep can be pretty annoying though, which is why I would pair Primal Groudon with a Pokemon carrying Aromatherapy or Heal Bell. Fortunately, Pokemon like defensive Xerneas and Chansey are good picks. Stealth Rock wears the enemy down over time and is valuable team support.

252 SpA Life Orb Dark Aura Yveltal Dark Pulse vs. 252 HP / 224+ SpD Groudon-Primal: 179-212 (44.3 - 52.4%) -- 18.4% chance to 2HKO

+2 252+ SpA Fairy Aura Xerneas Moonblast vs. 252 HP / 224+ SpD Groudon-Primal: 180-212 (44.5 - 52.4%) -- 21.5% chance to 2HKO

+1 252+ Atk Zacian-Crowned Close Combat vs. 252 HP / 32 Def Groudon-Primal: 171-202 (42.3 - 50%) -- 0.4% chance to 2HKO

+1 252+ SpA Kyogre-Primal Ice Beam vs. 252 HP / 224+ SpD Groudon-Primal: 164-193 (40.5 - 47.7%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

0 SpA Groudon-Primal Overheat vs. 252 HP / 4 SpD Prism Armor Necrozma-Dusk-Mane in Harsh Sunshine: 414-487 (104 - 122.3%) -- guaranteed OHKO

what would you do if you are faced with an opponent like Corviknight, immune to Ground and Toxic? That means you will have to switch out, right? Good moveset though :D
Corviknight sees very little usage on the ladder, but I'll add Lava Plume and Overheat as options.
sure :D
Why does Yveltal have 52 SpA in the calc only? It's always running max 252 EVs on Special Attack.

Gen 8 Doubles Ubers

Groudon @ Sitrus Berry
Ability: Drought
EVs: 240 HP / 252 Atk / 16 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Precipice Blades
- Rock Slide
- Heat Crash
- Protect

Bulky attacker that can be used with Tailwind support. Precipice Blades is STAB and hits both opposing Pokemon. Rock Slide is coverage and allows you to hit Pokemon like Yveltal, Ho-oh, and Tornadus super effectively. Heat Crash is for coverage. Protect is for scouting. 16 Speed EVs + Tailwind support allow you to outspeed Pokemon like non-scarf Calyrex-Shadow and Zacian-Crowned.

Wide Lens really won’t help and would be a waste of an item slot ngl, Sitrus Berry would be much more helpful.

Roar destroys almost any set up sweeper in NDAG, especially if they rely on physical attack.

I’m no primal Groudon expert but this set looks good to me

Special Lead Groudon

Groudon @ Red Orb
Ability: Drought
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
- Earth Power
- Fire Blast / Flamethrower / Eruption
- Thunderbolt / Solar Beam
- Stealth Rock

Earth Power and Fire Blast / Flamethrower / Eruption are STAB. Fire Blast for power, Flamethrower for accuracy, or Eruption for the start of battles. Thunderbolt gets more coverage than Solar Beam in Ubers, but Solar Beam is more powerful. The only reason you would use Solar Beam is for Kyogre, who, if mega evolved, will cancel Solar Beam's effectiveness. Thus, Thunderbolt is recommended. Stealth Rock is setup.

by
edited by
Earth Power isn't better than Earthquake / Precicpice Blades since you get walled by Chansey / Blissey / even Kyogre. Thunderbolt is really weak, it's not a good option to hit Kyogre (your physical Ground STAB hits harder). Solar Beam sure can't hit Kyogre under heavy rain, but hitting Arceus-Water is useful.

These two Groudon sets share a few things in common, One of them being that they were both based around making Groudon a fast physical sweeper that can out-speed many Pokemon. Below are the two sets; one for ORAS, and one for XY.

ORAS Set:

Groudon @ Red Orb
Ability: Drought
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Precipice Blades
- Stone Edge
- Fire Punch
- Thunder Punch

Precipice Blades (STAB)
Stone Edge (To take care of Flying Pokemon)
Fire Punch (STAB)
Thunder Punch (So it can do something to Water Pokemon)

XY Set:

Groudon @ Choice Band
Ability: Drought
EVs: 6 HP / 252 Atk / 252 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Stone Edge
- Fire Punch
- Thunder Punch

Earthquake (While it doesn't have Precipice Blades, it still has a good STAB move)
Stone Edge (To do something against Flying Pokemon)
Fire Punch (Type coverage and warding off Grass Pokemon)
Thunder Punch (Type coverage and warding off Water Pokemon)

Groudon @ Red Orb
Ability: Drought
EVs: 168 HP / 252 Atk / 88 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Earthquake
- Fire Punch
- Bulk Up / Swords Dance
- Precipice Blades

Max attack is to hit hard on anything that doesn't resist it. Precipice Blades is a signature move and Fire Punch is for STAB. I wouldn't risk having thunder punch to cover its weakness, though. In addition, Bulk Up or Swords Dance can be great to boost your power!

Why would you use both Precipice Blades and Earthquake in same set instead of Stone Edge over one of them to form EdgeQuake combo?
Because I was 11 when I made the moveset.

Groudon @ Red Orb / Wide Lens
Ability Drough
EVs: 4 HP / 252 Atk / 252 SpA
Brave Nature
- Earthquake / Precipice Blades
- Solar Beam
- Flametrhower
- Rest

Earthquake / Precipice Blades - STAB
Solar Beam - Water-type coverage
Flamethrower - STAB
Rest

Or...
LET'S GET
POWERFUL

Groudon @ Life Orb
Ability: Drought
EVs: 252 Atk / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Gentle Nature
- Precipice Blades
- Solar Beam
- Flamethrower
- Dragon Claw

Precipice Blades - SUPER POWERFUL STAB
Solar Beam - DESTROYS WATER TYPES
Flamethrower - POWERFUL STAB
Dragon Claw - WRECKS DRAGONS

So since I am a hard hitting Ubers guy I would go with the POWER set but you can choose just make sure to wreck the Haters! :)

Gen 7 (Rock Polish Sweeper)

Groudon @ Aguav Berry
Ability: Drought
EVs: 188 HP / 64 Atk / 200 SpD / 56 Spe
Careful Nature
- Dragon Claw / Dragon Tail
- Fire Punch
- Precipice Blades / Earthquake
- Rock Polish

(Feedback is appreciated.)

Why only 64 Atk EVs. All of your moves are physical.
0 votes

Groudon @ Red Orb
Ability: Drought
EVs: 144 HP / 156 Atk / 56 SpD / 152 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Precipice Blades / Earthquake
- Smack Down / Rock Slide / Stone Edge
- Hone Claws / Swords Dance
- Eruption / Stealth Rock

Precipice Blades is a good and powerful STAB move, but it's accurary can be a problem, Earthquake is another good choice. Smack Down can be used to hit Flying-types or Pokémons with Levitate with your powerful ground attack, other options are Rock Slide and Stone Edge, which have better power, but low accuracy.

Hone Claws boost your attack by 1 and increase your accuracy, making Stone Edge / Rock Slide / Precipice Blades more likely to hit, while Swords Dance boost attack by 2 and can be used for Earthquake. Eruption is STAB and very powerful at full HP, I recommend it if you have a Pokémon to entry hazards, if not, you can use Stealth Rock instead.
