This has always plagued me and I can't believe I haven't asked it before. There are multiple ways to organize the order of receiving, hatching, and dispatching eggs.

These are the ones I know off the top of my head:

  • Receiving a bunch of eggs from the DayCare without hatching them, and then constantly going to the PC and adding eggs to your party 5 at a time, receiving new eggs along the way.

  • Receiving and hatching eggs as they come along. If you have 5 unhatched eggs in your party, don't receive new ones until one has hatched.

Variables also depend on game, due to the changing rules of whether Pokemon can be added directly to a full party or have to go back to PC. I'm asking primarily for Gens 7-8, but if you would like to mention other games, that is fine too.

I recognize this is a question but it's not very scientific and the answer talks about MM in a different way.
If you have access to an external software (tm), you can just mass generate a bunch of eggs and Check To See Which Is Shiny instead of hatching them all. I find that pretty effluent, and technically completely legit :P that’s what I do. It saves literal days in older games.

Good question though. I’ve always wondered the same.
I find that to be a pretty illegitimate and cheat way to get shinies, also takes away from the surprise. Not saying that's not the most efficient, but it's not how I play the game.

But I could never hunt in older games I'd lose my mind, (I say as I'm soft resetting Darkrai in Diamond lol).
This depends mostly on your Pokemon's breeding chances and egg cycles, right? Aren't the other variables mostly negligible?
Also the first method that you mentioned will eventually cause your PC to fill up, so it probably isn't faster than the second method in the long run.
Well in most modern games hatching eggs takes less time than receiving eggs if you're hatching 5 at a time
If hatching eggs is so fast, why is your party filling up with eggs? If hatching one egg takes longer than receiving one egg, aren't you limited to hatching at most 5 eggs at any given time no matter what else you do? How would the PC help you do anything faster?
That is the opposite of what I said. Hatching eggs is *faster* than receiving eggs, (at least with Oval Charm and Flame Body). The situation where my party fills up with eggs is primarily in USUM, where the time for the Daycare Lady to receive an egg is longer than SwSh, and I receive them one by one, instead of adding 5 eggs at a time to my party.

I primarily do the first method in SwSh, and the second method in USUM, but I have no idea if I am doing it most efficiently in either game.
