Where are Makuhita's eyes?

Wait a doggone second...

I always thought Makuhita's eyes were the red circles. But are they actually the diagonal slits in the places where eyes should be? If so, I've been looking at Makuhita incorrectly since I was six years old...

On its cheeks are red, ring-shaped markings, and it has slit-like eyes.
