PokéBase - Pokémon Q&A

I was recently researching for a good fairy type tank/ wall Pokémon, and I came across Alcremie. Alcremie can learn both Recover ( which recovers 50% of it’s max HP ) and Drain Punch ( which drains 50% of the opponent’s HP ). So I was wondering if they stack. And if so, then does that mean Alcremie might get fully healed in the following situation?

Situation:

  • BATTLES OPPONENT FOR A WHILE *

*Alcremie uses Recover,

Opposing Pokémon uses non-damaging move, and/or move misses, leaving Alcremie at 50% of it’s HP…

Alcremie uses Drain Punch.

Please let me know if they stack.

Some wider reading about strategy in competitive Pokemon might help.

They will stack, but you won't heal 100% of your HP every time you use the pair. Recover always heals 50% of your HP, whereas Drain Punch restores 50% of the damage dealt to the target. In other words, the latter doesn't always heal 50% of your HP, and neither does it drain 50% of the opponents' HP. The damage dealt and the HP restored are relative and are subject to change in different set conditions.

Also, using Drain Punch and Recover on a Pokémon like Alcremie isn't good. Its base attack is a paltry 60, which wouldn't deal much damage and thus would heal even less. It's mostly used as a bulky offensive Pokémon with either Calm Mind + Recover and three attacks or Acid Armor + Calm Mind to boost the defences and Rest as a healing move.

The only Pokemon I can see who would benefit from a Drain Punch Recover tactic is Mega Mewtwo X
Alright. Thanks for letting me know!
