Do electric type gyms try to keep you paralyzed even when you heal yourself?

I am currently playing Pokemon emerald and am currently doing the third gym. Every time I heal myself they paralyze me again, is this just a coincidence?

I'm almost certain that you just got unlucky. Unless your Pokemon needs to be fast, you should probably just let them be paralyzed until you defeat the gym leader.

Actually, yes. With Wattson in Emerald, I had a hard time with battling because I’d always get paralyzed. In fact, it would happen to me with Lt. Surge in FrLg and Volkner in DPP. However, Clemont in XY has not used the same thing. To answer your question, it is not a coincidence.
