Does it matter that my Pokemon aren't 'fond of each other' when breeding?

Question

I would like to breed my male charizard with a ditto on Pokémon Shield. But when I leave them at nursery the lady says they aren't fond of each other. Does that matter or will I still get a egg? I'm completely new to breeding?

This is ok, you will still get eggs. If they aren’t fond of each other, you just won’t get them quite as often. Hope this helps!

Yeah it just takes a lot longer to receive an egg.

The only dialogue that means they won’t breed is something close to “prefer to play with other pokémon”, depending on the game.
