My friend has a shiny one with more than the max ivs and evs from a trade and he beats me with it. I have tried mega alakazam but he out speeds and goes for shadow ball.

Not a full answer, but https://www.smogon.com/dex/sm/pokemon/gengar/vgc17/ https://www.smogon.com/dex/sm/pokemon/gengar/bh/ Both pages have a "checks and counters" section.
Thank you!
Personally, I would go with Mega Gyarados. It eats whatever Gengar has and just sets up dragon dance on it.  Mega Gyarados also has a very good match up agains his team. A stab +1 crunch would severely injure or outright kill Necrozma, Solgaleo and Gengar. It also doesn't particularly care about electric attacks since after mega evolving, electric attacks are no longer a death sentence and after one dragon dance, it outspeeds everyone on his team except mega Gengar. Just be careful if it has focus miss though and use jolly nature. However, if his Gengar has will o wisp then don't use Gyarados. Instead give Greninja a choice scarf. It will one shot Gengar with dark pulse
Thank you! Please put your ideas as answers. :)
(Also my friend does not use set up moves or status ones as well)

I just thought about this one. Here is one Pokemon that would really laugh at Mega Gengar, prankster Murkrow. With prankster, all non damaging moves go first regardless of speed and Murkrow has three moves that would make Gengar miserable. The first being thunder wave, which effectively cuts the victim's speed by half, the second being tailwind which doubles your team's speed for a few turns and quash, which forces the target to go last regardless of speed. Just imagine your friend's rage when his Gengar fails to attack because of quash

Although personally, support moves aren't really my thing so I would go for a jolly Mega Gyarados , setup dragon dance and go for the kill. With stab crunch, it destroys three of your friend's Pokemon. You can also use choice scarf Greninja and spam dark pulse although I doubt it would kill the two legendaries in one shot

I was so happy, because he always annoys me so sometimes we stop being friends.
Overreaction would be an understatement lol.  I'm never gonna understand why people destroy their gadgets when they get rekt. But, since you already did that strategy, be careful of a will o wisp the next time you fight him
I will! But my friend does not use status moves, he thinks there a waste of time. (There 100% useFULL!!)
Just be careful. I was like that where I never use any non damaging move. If he does decide to use it, you might be in trouble so be ready for it
Don't worry, I have a magic bounce espon at my side now, to switch In to. :)

Alolan Muk: Gengar's STAB attacks do virtually no damage to Alolan Muk due to its great bulk on top of its Dark and Poison typing resisting both of them. Muk, on the other hand, can bring Gengar down to its Focus Sash with Knock Off, and then potentially follow up with a Shadow Sneak. If not, it can simply just finish Gengar with a clean second Knock Off.

Faster Pokemon: Anything holding a Choice Scarf, such as Garchomp, can easily outspeed and bring Gengar to its Focus Sash. Garchomp in particular can also switch in on any of Gengar's attacks without taking too much damage. Other fast Pokemon, such as Tapu Koko and Aerodactyl, don't even need a Choice Scarf to outspeed and damage Gengar.

Trick Room: Gengar's great Speed can become its largest weakness once Trick Room goes up, as attackers can take full advantage of Gengar's little bulk. Snorlax and Araquanid deserve a mention as well as Knock Off from Hariyama and Eruption from Torkoal will bring Gengar down to its Focus Sash if it has one.

Special Walls: Gengar severely struggles against Pokemon that can sponge its hits and do decent damage back to it, such as Porygon2, Snorlax, and Araquanid. The latter two also have the ability to bring Gengar down to its Focus Sash, whereas Gengar can 3HKO Araquanid at best. In addition, Celesteela can easily hold its own with Gengar, even if it is Taunted.

Yveltal: Unlike other Dark-types, Yveltal can viably run Revelation Dance and takes neutral damage from Secret Sword. Thus, it is able to check almost every variant of Mega Gengar when healthy, though it may be overwhelmed by Tail Glow-boosted attacks. Normalize Mega Gengar can also overpower Yveltal with Shell Smash-boosted Boombursts after Stealth Rock damage. Assault Vest and Unaware variants avoid concerns about boosted Mega Gengar if it lacks sleep-inducing moves and effectively handle Mega Gengar.

RegenVest Walls: RegenVest users tend to struggle against Normalize Mega Gengar if lacking Revelation Dance, but Pokemon like Primal Kyogre and Dialga can defensively check setup variants of Mega Gengar. They are particularly hard to wear down due to their ability, and Mega Gengar is forced to rely on excessive prior damage or multiple layers of hazards to surmount them. However, all of them are neutralized by Spore and Entrainment and will struggle to immediately take down Mega Gengar using Quiver Dance. Some of the RegenVest walls like Dialga are vulnerable to boosted Secret Sword as well.

Primal Kyogre: Although it does not resist Judgment, Primal Kyogre's massive special bulk allows it to tank boosted hits when running a RegenVest or Unaware set. A majority of Primal Kyogre variants also run Revelation Dance, meaning it is a good blanket check to Normalize variants as well. Note that Primal Kyogre lacking Spectral Thief will struggle to check Mega Gengar running Quiver Dance due to the Special Defense boost.

Priority Users: Priority users like Aerilate Mega Rayquaza and Refrigerate Kyurem-B can easily revenge kill Mega Gengar lacking Dazzling or Queenly Majesty by using Fake Out and Extreme Speed, bypassing its high Speed. Although they dislike switching into Judgment, they can take out any variant of Mega Gengar after Stealth Rock damage. Though King's Shield remedies issues with -ate to a degree, the move itself is quite difficult to fit in the first place and Triage Mega Rayquaza can still revenge kill Mega Gengar.

Chansey: Chansey's enormous special bulk makes it a strong check to Mega Gengar, shutting down sweep attempts unless Mega Gengar is overly lucky with sleep turns or has a combination of Mold Breaker and Secret Sword.

Magic Bounce and Comatose Users: Foes with Magic Bounce or Comatose such as Zygarde-C and Registeel cannot have their abilities removed by Entrainment and can check Mega Gengar, given they can handle Judgment. They can also harshly punish Mega Gengar by bouncing back Spore from setup variants, if Mega Gengar lacks Mold Breaker.

Faster Foes: Faster threats like Mega Mewtwo Y can easily outspeed and KO Mega Gengar, though they will be KOed back if Mega Gengar has Focus Sash and cannot take on Mega Gengar if it is boosted by Shell Smash and Quiver Dance.

Poison Heal Regigigas: Regigigas has enough bulk to survive a +2 Secret Sword from Shell Smash Mega Gengar from full health and can OHKO back with Knock Off or Spectral Thief. It can also shut down Normalize Mega Gengar with a sleep move, which it commonly carries.

Pursuit: Mega Gengar's tendency to retreat from bulky Dark-types like Mega Gyarados and Mega Tyranitar due to its frailty and resulting hazardous matchup against them, depending on its moveset, makes Pursuit one of the viable methods to guarantee its removal or at least leave it heavily damaged. They may struggle trapping Normalize variants, but they can also use Trick to throw a wrench in the matchup and cripple Mega Gengar.

Item Removal: Knock Off not only hits Mega Gengar super effectively but also removes Spooky Plate, leaving Mega Gengar nearly useless and unable to take on its own Imposter. Trick and Switcheroo can also cripple Mega Gengar by removing Spooky Plate.

Bruh you just copied and pasted the text from smogon lmao.
why does that matter???
THANK YOU!! But I don't do hackamons, just ultra moon link battles.
Someone else up-voted this, so apparently copy-pasting works.
Why does it say Yaveltal can viably run revelation dance? The only Pokemon that learns that is oricorio

Edit: oh it's about hackmons
You said your opponent had a hacked Pokemon, so it's only fair if you hack your Pokemon.
Well, I don't hack, but I have a hacked 6iv and evs trained victini, heatran and celebi. Also me and my friend got our hacked Pokemon from a trade and they don't know illegal moves, just level up and TM ones they can learn. Plus I use my hacked victini against him all the time. (Because my favorite Pokemon is Victini!)

Here are some good counters to Mega Gengar:

Mewtwo
Mega Mewtwo Y @ Mewtwonite Y
Ability: Insomnia
EVs: 40 Def / 216 SpA / 252 Spe
Nature: TImid
- Psystrike
- Ice Beam
- Aura Sphere/Fire Blast
- Taunt/Calm Mind

One counter to Mega Gengar is having a faster Pokemon that can OHKO it - so why not use Mega Mewtwo Y? Mega Gengar has lower Def than Sp.Def so Psystrike is a good option. Ice Beam can take out Ultra Necrozma and destroy Emolga. Fire Blast is great against Solgaleo. Taunt is very helpful since gengar has moves like Disable and Perish Song. Calm Mind is there if you can set up and sweep the opponent's entire team.

Chandelure
Chandelure @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Infiltrator
EVs: 252 Sp. Atk, 252 Speed, 4 Sp.Def
Timid Nature
- Fire Blast/Flamethrower
- Shadow Ball
- Dark Pulse
- Trick

Another fast Pokemon is Chandelure with Choice Scarf and a Timid nature. It's Infiltrator ability enables it to bypass substitute, light screen etc , which can ensure a OHKO with shadow ball. Sometimes Mega Gengar has disable, so if Shadow Ball gets disabled you can use Dark Pulse. Trick can get rid of it's Focus Sash.

Celesteela
Celesteela @ Leftovers
Ability: Beast Boost
EVs: 228 HP / 44 Atk / 116 Def / 116 SpD / 4 Spe
Adamant Nature
- Heavy Slam
- Leech Seed
- Substitute
- Protect

Gengar severely struggles against Pokemon that can take its hits very well as well as doing decent damage back. Celesteela is an amazing wall that can take care of Gengar. Heavy Slam is it's best STAB - Mega Gengar is very light compared to Celesteela. Leech Seed provides chip damage and a form of recovery. Substitute protects against status and it's leech seed recovery means the HP cost is less risky. Protect helps it stall so it can gain more HP from Leftovers and Leech Seed.

Snorlax
Snorlax @ Wiki Berry
Ability: Gluttony
EVs: 68 HP / 188 Atk / 252 Def
Brave Nature
- Curse
- Double-Edge/Return
- High Horsepower
- Recycle/Protect

Make sure you have a Pokemon that can use trick room because Mega Gengar has extremely high speed, giving it a big weakness to trick room.

We want Snorlax to be extremely bulky and very strong. Curse will increase it's Atk and Def but decrease it's speed each time. While you are setting up Curse you can use Protect to stall or Recycle if Snorlax already ate it's berry. When Trick Room is set up, the speed stat will be swapped so that Gengar will be very slow while Snorlax will be very fast as well as having high Def and Atk. As a result, Snorlax turns into a sweeping monster. Double Edge/Return are it's best STAB moves. High Horsepower is needed to take out Mega Gengar as it is weak to ground types.
