What happens if a Pokemon with Comatose uses Psycho Shift?

I was wondering if, say, I was in Balanced Hackmons, (the only format where this combo could exist) and had a Pokemon with Comatose use Psycho Shift. Would it put the opponent to sleep or fail?

It appears that Comatose doesn't really cause sleep. It only simulates some of sleep's effects, and passing sleep with Psycho Shift isn't one of them.

I kind-of thought it wouldn't, because the status isn't actually inflicted on the Pokemon.
