Evolution of Rockruff help?

Lycanroc has confused me from day one, but now that the game is out, I was hoping someone could help clear things up for me. If I catch a Rockruff in Moon, trade it to Sun and evolve it there, will it evolve into Midday or Midnight? Is there any sort of hidden value on the Rockruff itself that dictates what it will evolve into the moment it's generated like Wurmple? Is a Moon Rockruff doomed to evolve into Midnight? Or does it rely solely on what version the Rockruff, regardless of origin game, is in when it reaches Lv25+?

From the official Sun/Moon website:

Rockruff evolves into a different form of Lycanroc depending on which game you're playing. In Pokémon Sun, it will evolve into Lycanroc's Midday Form. In Pokémon Moon, Rockruff will evolve into Lycanroc's Midnight Form.

Rockruff evolves based on the game it is in.
