A few questions about IV breeding?

Question

I've been breeding for my perfect team lately, and I've gotten really confused about IVs.
First question:Would it be possible to hack for a Ditto with IVs akin to the ones I need for the offspring, then get it to hold the Destiny Knot to pass down IVs until I get the one I want?
Second question: What's the ideal string of IVs I want? Is it (for example) 31/31/0/31/31/31? Or something like that?

You want 31 IVs in all stats for a pokemon to have max IVs, 6 IV just means it has 31 IVs in all six stats

yes it would be legit, no, (as far as I know) 6/6/6/6/6/6 would not be the same thing as 31/31/31/31/31/31, 6 IV is just a way of saying it has 6 perfect IVs, it does not mean 6/6/6/6/6/6

also, many people go for 5 IVs (5 perfect IVs) instead of 6 because there's normally a useless stat that isn't going to be used (I think it's normally attack or special attack, depending on the Pokemon.)  because one stat is useless to that pokemon, people normally just forget about the IV that isn't going to be used and let it be random so they don't have to go through the trouble of getting another perfect IV for nothing. (But that's just what I think) But don't take my advice, have somebody that is better with IV than me explain it to you.

• For the first question, you can. If you have a perfect Ditto (meaning 31 IVs in every single stat), let it hold the Destiny Knot and breed it with whatever you're breeding with, you'll transfer 5 random IVs from both parents. Meaning out of the 12 IVs from both parents, you can inherit 5 of them. Don't fret if you don't get what you want the first try, however. Say if you got a baby with lets say, 3 perfect IVs, you can replace that Pokemon with the Pokemon you're breeding with, giving you a total of 9 perfect IVs for the Destiny Knot to work with. The key is patience.
• For the second question, it really depends on what your Pokemon needs! If your Pokemon will never use Physical attacks, it is advised to use 31/0/31/31/31/31/31 to minimize Confusion and Foul Play damage. If its a Physical Attacker, for the simplicity of breeding, you should not worry about the Special Attack stat while breeding. And there are even more IVs spreads, such as those to reduce Life Orb recoil and whatnot.

Perfect answer.  When you're IV breeding the attack and sp. attack is good to drop for the reasons stated above.  Less seen than the attacks is speed reduction, which can be extremely useful on some builds.  Sp. D and Defense can be intentionally reduced for the purpose of moves like counter and mirror coat (usually only found on 1 Vs. 1).  Best to have all of this on one page :D
