My Hydreigon is suffering from serious Four-Moveslot Syndrome. I'll cut right to the chase (this is for VGC).

Hydreigon@ Life Orb
Ability: Levitate
EVs: 252 SpA / 108 HP / 132 Def / 12 SDef / 4 Spe
Modest Nature
- Earth Power
- Draco Meteor
- Dark Pulse
- Protect / Flamethrower / Fire Blast

I'm running Life Orb over Choice Specs to be able to switch between attacks and to utilize Protect. However, using Protect forces me to either drop one of my STABs or a valuable coverage move. Earth Power was deemed too valuable to hit Mega Mawile and company, but without Flamethrower/Fire Blast I cannot check Breloom and his cronies.

On my team I do have a Zapdos with Heat Wave and a Chandelure with Flamethrower, but I may find myself switching Chandy for Heatran. I won't be bringing Heatran to the same matches as Hydreigon because of the shared Fighting weakness, and I hardly think Zapdos will provide adequate Fire coverage.

TL;DR Do I keep Protect on Hydreigon or opt for Fire coverage?

Protect imo.

Protect is extremely useful because it makes your opponent think twice before carelessly double-targeting your Hydreigon. First, and then, it's not very common on LO Hydreigon to use Protect so you have a surprise effect to it added. Zapdos may not provide sufficient Fire-type coverage but let's face it, do you really need so much Fire?
Again, I'm not an expert in VGC but still, this is my opinion. OR you could try a choiced set, they wreck havoc from what I tested with my Hydreigon.

Thanks!

And yes, I need that much Fire. Amoongus scares me >~<
lol
Amoonguss shouldn't be that hard to deal with if you have Zapdos and Heatran, they both resist Amoonguss' most frequent Giga Drain and Heatran should beat it with STAB Fire-type attacks.
Spore, mate. Spore.
