I came up with a Double Battle strategy where my Pyroar uses Noble Roar on my Gothitelle, where each individual stat drop would activate Competitive, resulting in a +3 Special Attack boost.

I got the idea when I used Noble Roar on a wild Defiant Pawniard.

However, when I tested it out in the Battle Maison, something weird happened. The move animation didn't occur, and all that happened was a Special Attack drop on Gothitelle.

Is this a glitch of some kind?

It didn't work because Competitive only works if your stats are lowered by an opponent.

"Competitive raises the user's Special Attack stat by two stages for each stat lowered by an opponent, including the Special Attack stat itself.

Hope I helped :)

Ah, I see. Thanks. :3

But there's still the fact that it seems to have skipped the move animation as well as the Attack drop...
Well I'm not sure what exactly happened but I tested this out on Showdown and everything worked fine so may be it was a glitch in the game. I also confirmed by testing it out that Competitive does indeed only work if your stats are lowered by an opponent, despite Serebii not mentioning that part. http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/smogondoubles-84597742
@shadowbuizel when you attack your partner it will always skip the animation (dunno why)
I believe the reason for the animation skip on your partner is because the pokemon attacking is not facing the pokemon it is attacking, therefore the standard animation would have to be changed.
