Breeding troubles. What am I doing wrong?

I'm trying to breed my archeops with a skarmory, so I can get an archen that knows steel wing, but the old man at the day care says that the Pokemon don't seem to like each other. I know for a fact that the two Pokemon are in the correct egg groups, so my question is "what am I doing wrong"? Plus my ditto won't breed with either.

That's completely fine; as strange as it may sound, those two Pokemon can still breed together, and Ditto should be able to as well. As long as the Day Care man doesn't say, "The two prefer to play with other Pokemon than each other," your Pokemon can breed.

They have a 19.8% chance if producing an Egg per 255 steps, so it may take some time to get an Egg though.
