Well deserved +1. :)
Wtf 4 votes in 5 minutes? o.o
Well deserved, :P
Fling does not give the item to the target, it simply inflicts damage.
check out the bulbapedia page for Fling (it doesn't mention it on this site). Some items will also inflict statuses. The Flame Orb has 30 power, but also inflicts a Burn. Other items can Paralyse, Poison, or Flinch the target. Mental Herb even cures infatuation in the target (i'm not sure what the point of that is) and the White Herb fixes all stat drops in the target (again, what is the point?).
I thought I'd say that when you Fling a Flame Orb or a Poison Barb, it still inflicts damage. Also, Toxic Orb will Poison the target and Light Ball Paralyzes the foe, both when flung. (both those do damage too)
Hmm, indeed they do. My mistake I guess I've been mistaken for quite some time ;)

Moves that can cause FRZ. (Freeze)

Moves that can cause PAR. (Paralysis)

Moves that can cause SLP. (Sleep)

Moves that can cause BRN. (Burn)

Moves that can cause PSN. (Poison)

All the moves that have been listed in the above lists can cause a status condition to the targeted Pokemon.

Hope I helped. :)
