Starter Pokemon info of Pokemon games past?

Question

So I was wondering if in the past when a Pokemon game is announced, the starter Pokemon evolution chain was released before said game hit the market. I dunno about you guys, but I kinda want to know what I'm getting into when I choose my starter...

I don't think they have been announced before the game came out but I am unsure if what I said is true.

Yes. It may be different this year, of course, but all the Pokemon were released, before the game itself hit the market. And I know this because I remember drooling over them with my cousin :D

If this isn't what you were asking, then please clarify because I'm a nubhead.

Kinda- my question is in reference to the starter Pokemon and their evolution chains; not so much any of the regular/legendary pokemon
