Back in Gen 6, some pokémon were only obtainable from a feature called Friend Safari. So you had to link to someone else's game in order to access their Friend Safari and catch the pokémon you want there. Each Safari only had 3 types of pokémon, so you'd have to link to multiple of them, and people put their Friend Codes in their bio for that purpose.
