Wall for Ferarri (page 7)

If you think Pythagoras' theorem is complicated, I'm not sure what to say. Furthermore, that was only an explanation of why your given values would not make a triangle. If you merely said those values (i.e x=1, y=2, z>3), you could have dissatisfied the inequality and thus proved that it was not a triangle. My explanation using Pythagoras was merely done to prove that the third length has to be the square root of 2 for it to be a triangle, or at least a right angled one.

Then it wouldn't be a triangle.
Let's say we have a right angled triangle with lengths 1 and 2 for each of the non-hypotenuse sides. Using Pythagoras' theorem, we know that a^2+b^2=c^2, where a and b are the non hypotenuse sides. 1^2+2^2=5, and √5 is 2.24 to 3 significant figures. That is less than the sum of the two other sides, which is 1+2=3. Therefore, if z is more than 3, we can safely say that it is not a triangle.

I thought it was the opposite, with Caleb having multiple accounts

"Teacher: How do you know that it’s a triangle?
Student: I use my EYES to SEE that triangles have three lines
Teacher: No you use this very complicated formula."

The Triangle inequality theorem is not complicated in the slightest.

x+y>z
x+z>y
y+z>x

Where x, y and z are the lengths of each side in a triangle.
If the inequalities are satisfied, then you have a triangle. It's not complicated.
