A few points. I see no reason how Wifi > Showdown in any manner, in terms of the settings for a tournament or how fun it will be
1 Wifi has nothing over Showdown, Absolutely nothing.
Showdown can be quicker, is easier to access, easier to create teams
2. Showdown has a much more level playing field, resulting in a better competition as competitors are much more evenly matched
Before you ask "lol what" one of the main factors of Showdown is that you can immediately create teams with whatever EVs/IVs/Movesets you wish to. This immedietly eliminates the factor of "EV Training", "IV Training" and "Breeding for certain natures" which is a factor in all wifi battles. Some of you may argue that it's your own fault if you cant do those things - but please note that some players simply don't have the time to EV Train and all - that's something that requires hours and hours of work.
As a direct result of this, I would say that Showdown battles are much more reliant on skill and knowledge.
Both Wi-Fi battling and Showdown battling use the same concepts - teambuilding, prediction etc.
However by eliminating training factors, Showdown puts the battle into a more skill based area. If you make a direct move from Wifi to Showdown battling and you lose there are quite simply three explanations. 1 - hax. 2 - You got outpredicted. 3- They had a better team, and thus superior teambuilding
3. More players can access Showdown
Wifi battlers are limited to having copies of the actual game, must have finished it to have a somewhat competitive team, and must have spent hours on hours of breeding and training in order to have a fully competitive team.
Showdown is accessible to everyone, as long as you have a device which can access the Internet. People make teams and play on their iPods and Tablets - it's not even limited to Laptops and Desktops.
4.
>prize can be like points or a rare pokemon
What is that supposed to mean?
For starters, who would provide the rare Pokémon? Especially if we held this thing every single week or month. That's one damn generous person/people if they're going to provide that.
Define points.
5. You cannot theme Wifi battles effectively
If you look at DB's Showdown Tourneys, we are able to create themes for the tournament. We are able to create STABmon Tournaments, Collab tournaments, and add extra clauses which add spins and interest to battles which could never occur in Wifi
You tell me when you can use STABmon teams in Wifi legitamitely. Or when you can quickly make a characteristic team based on a certain colour that still maintains its competitiveness.
6. Hacking
I personally don't really care about this issue, but I've seen people complain about it heaps in chat.
It is in fact, fairly easy to get a hacked pokemon into a Wifi Battle. PokeGen it or something. Forces an unfair battlefield, especially if you hack it to have like 252 EVs on everything.
Oh and also I'm not a scrubby wifi-hater.
I used to competitively play over Wi-Fi in Gen 5. So I understand what you're getting at.
However, I don't believe that Wi-Fi is any funner than Showdown. Showdown allows extra metagames, and certain themes which Wi-Fi lacks. It is also easier to use, access and overall battle.
