Do Pokemon's stats matter much in battle?

I was wondering if it was necessary to worry about stat changes and growth, or if they didn't overall effect the power of my Pokemon...

Heck yeah! If your stats are low, your Pokemon is gonna die! If your defense stat is low, a physical move could KO you. If you don't have much Special Attack, your Pokemon's Special moves will have little power. Pay attention to stats. They are very important.
