Well IMO, yes. You were given the starter as a gift from the Professor, and it's your partner. Not using it would be like dumping your best friend in a dumpster

What about all the polemon we keep in our PC? How is that any different? It isn't bad, and besides, it's a game.

There is nothing wrong with not using your starter, I rarely use starter Pokemon and I never have trouble.

i find most starters have less utility ir at least did up until Dream World abilities. Iron Fist makes Infernape much better than Blaze does, and absolutely nobody can argue that Contrary was basically giving Serperior essence of ungodly spammable fury in a can.
