Is there a chance to get the same ID number as somebody in Pokemon?

Question

There is only five digits in each ID code, which would mean at a maximum there is 10,000 possible ID numbers. I may be wrong, but I believe there is more than 10,000 people that play pokemon. So is it possible some people share ID numbers? What would happen if two of those people traded?

Yes, but after Gen II there was a second secret ID number, so the game would reconize them.

And before Gen II, there weren't many people playing Pokemon, so it didn't matter

It is possible, but you are more likely to find a Shiny Pokemon swarm then this happening.
