What would happen in pokemon sapphire is a smeargle used curse and conversion?

Since in that game curse is a ??? type. And the move conversion changes it's type into one of its own moves. What if the only moves smeargle knew was curse and conversion? Then what type would it become? Would it become a ??? type?

NOTE: Please don't say this doesn't work. I want a FULL reason what would happen if it didn't work. And this does not work in black and white.

Sorry but no it doesn't work.

Conversion cannot be used on Curse in order to turn into a ???-type

It won't work because if Smeargle turns into a ??? type it won't be fair because it doesn't have any weaknesses.
