If you have a good competitive moveset for Wailord, post an answer below and upvote the best ones. Movesets for any of its pre-evolutions can also be shared on this thread.

Be sure to include full set details in your post, e.g. items, abilities, natures and EVs. Some explanation, including the intended game mode for your set, is also appreciated. Access the full list of guidelines here.

Wailord Pokédex and learnset for reference.

Wailord
Wailord @ Choice Scarf
EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe
Timid Nature
- Water Spout
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power [Grass]
- Hydro Pump / Surf

Choice Scarf allows Wailord to pull off Water Spout, and is good for speed anyway.
STAB Water Spout is extremely powerful.
Hidden Power Grass for dem Grass types, but has good coverage otherwise as well.
Hydro Pump is good when Wailord's HP falls, still hitting pretty hard.
If you are turned off by the 80 accuracy and pheraps some nasty surprises in numerous battles, Surf doesn't hit as hard, but is still an alternative for the other Water type STAB.

Wailmer

NU wall
Wailmer (M) @ Eviolite
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 12 HP / 240 Def / 16 SAtk / 240 SDef
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Aqua Ring
- Substitute
- Scald
- Amnesia

EVs make good 101 subs, which allows you to set up AR and amnesias. Scald is for taunt and the burn chance.

LC wall
Wailmer (M) @ Eviolite
Trait: Pressure
EVs: 36 HP / 236 Def / 236 SDef
Modest Nature (+SAtk, -Atk)
- Aqua Ring
- Substitute
- Scald
- Amnesia

Same set, just with EVs tailored to suit LC.

While my Wailord is Physical, I got another one, and he was Special, so I'll try this one out.

Wailord @ Leftovers
Ability: Water Veil
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 Spe
Modest Nature
- Aqua Ring
- Water Spout
- Scald
- Ice Beam

With Water Spout doing a tremendous 225 at full HP with STAB, Wailord can do some good damage. Setting up Aqua Ring is to gain more HP and the latter two moves are if your HP is really low and you need a 120 power STAB or if you need to hit the birds down respectively. THe EVs are to have even more HP (obviously...) and to hit harder. It then uses the Speed to hit before Base 65s.

Hope this helps!

Gen 8
Wailord
Wailord @ Choice Specs
Ability: Water Veil
EVs: 248 HP / 252 SpA / 8 SpD
Quiet Nature
IVs: 0 Atk / 0 Spe
- Water Spout
- Surf
- Ice Beam
- Hyper Voice

Instead of making Water Spout Wailord fast, why not make it slow and make it hit harder in Trick Room? This Wailord set is to be used in Trick Room. Water Spout is strong STAB and Wailord should outspeed most Pokémon in Trick Room, and Water Spout also gets a boost from Specs. Surf is also STAB and is here in case Wailord doesn't have much HP left. Ice Beam deals with grass types. Hyper Voice is for nuetral coverage. If you have Wailord in Trick Room and somehow in rain, Water Spout will do serious damage.

Wailord @ Choice Scarf
Ability: Pressure
EVs: 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 Atk or 252 SpA / 252 Spe / 4 Def, HP, or SpD
Hasty / Naive or Timid
2 Nature
- Explosion / Hyper Voice / Clear Smog
- Water Spout
- Scald
- Ice Beam
Run the second EV spread if running Clear Smog or Hyper Voice
Run Timid if running Clear Smog or Hyper Voice

Wailord @ Mystic Water
Ability: Oblivious
EVs: 252 HP / 252 SpA / 4 SpD
Modest Nature
- Rest
- Rain Dance
- Water Spout
- Sleep Talk

Mystic water boosts the power of water spout, rain dance is for setting up. Use rest when you take some damage. This restores health and also makes wailord immune to other status conditions, such as toxic, which absolutely cripples wailord as it deals large amounts of damage if left alone. However, sleep talk ensures you can continue to attack while asleep.

Mystic water could be swapped for leftovers however, just for a bit of extra healing.

Max hp EVs to add to Wailord's considerable health pool and max EVs on Special attack so water spout can wreck things.

I chose water spout due to the power based off the % of health left of the user, so the bulk on wailord is perfect for this.
