critical hits and defense changes?

Question

so i read on the internet that critical hits don't apply defense changes, like if i used calm mind 4 times and someone hit me with a special move, it wouldn't apply the fact that i used calm mind.

do critical hits apply the same way to lowered defenses?

example-- cheren used tail whip on me 4 times, then got a critical hit, would my defense being lowered still apply to the damage calculation?

This is a good question.

Your defense lowered will apply to damage calculation.
Whatever stat changes are more beneficial to the attacker, the game will use.
So if I use Tackle on a Pokemon with a -2 Defense, the damage will be calculated on the lowered stat
