The creator of Pokemon, Satoshi Tajiri, collected insects when he was young. As he grew older, he learned more about gaming and wondered if there was a way to collect creatures like his insects. Tajiri first saw two children playing together with Game Boys using the link cable and he imagined insects crawling along the cable between the two systems. He wanted to give modern children the chance to hunt for creatures as he did as a child. His idea eventually grew to Pokemon.
So Pokemon was an idea created by collecting insects.
