How much damage do crits actually do?

Bulbapedia says it varies with level, but Pokemondb says its strictly 1.5.

From Generation II to V, critical hits deal 2x damage. From Generation VI onwards, critical hits deal 1.5x damage. Any Pokemon with the Ability Sniper will enjoy another 1.5x damage when it lands a critical hit.

You were probably looking at the Generation I section on Bulbapedia, where critical hits do indeed vary with level. Attacker's level is doubled during damage calculation, which approximates (but does not equal) 2x damage. Due to the way the math works out, a Level 5 Pokemon will do about 1.5x damage and a Level 20 Pokemon will do about 1.8x. You can work out the critical hit multiplier for any level with the formula , in which "L" is the Pokemon's level.
