There are several moves that change type depending on held items, forms, or in-battle conditions. These are:
- Aura Wheel (Electric or Dark depending on Morpeko's form)
- Hidden Power (Varies per game; can be any type but Normal and Fairy)
- Ivy Cudgel (Grass, Water, Fire, or Rock depending on Ogerpon's form)
- Judgment (Any type depending on Arceus' form)
- Multi-Attack (Any type depending on Silvally's form)
- Natural Gift (Type varies depending on the Berry held)
- Raging Bull (Fighting, Fire, or Water depending on Paldean Tauros' form; Normal if any other Pokemon uses it)
- Revelation Dance (Type varies depending on the primary type of the user)
- Techno Blast (Electric, Ice, Fire, or Water depending on Genesect's Drive)
- Tera Blast (Any type depending on a Pokemon's active Tera Type; Normal if user hasn't Terastallized)

In addition, some moves change types if certain Abilities are in play. Any Normal type move will be changed by one of the Abilities listed below to the type next to it:
- Aerilate (Flying)
- Galvanize (Electric)
- Pixilate (Fairy)

In terms of other Abilities, Liquid Voice changes all sound-based moves to the Water type. Normalize changes all moves used by the user to the Normal type.

Finally, there are three moves that change the type of other moves. These are:
- Electrify
- Ion Deluge
- Plasma Fists
Ion Deluge and Plasma Fists change the target's Normal moves to Electric moves, while Electrify changes any move to Electric. In the case of Plasma Fists, every Pokemon on the field is affected. Other characteristics, such as PP, priority, and availability, obviously differ.
