Why doesn't my EV increases while EV training?

Question

So I recently Ev trained my Lv.52 Sceptile in EMERALD , I defeated quite a handful of Shupets and Mightyenas near Lilycove city while holding the Macho Band item, but my Pokemon only increased it's attack stats by 3 uppon leveling up
Please help me understand, Thanks

Your Sceptile might already have 252 physical attack EVs or 508 total EVs. Have you tried taking it to the effort ribbon person in Slateport City?

Your Pokemon gain EVs for every Pokemon they knock out in wild/trainer battles. If you've used your Sceptile for this (e.g. during your playthrough) then its EVs are likely to be maxed already.

Hi there. Sounds like you have maxed out your effort values on that Sceptile.

You can check this by speaking to the girl beside the Energy Guru in Slateport city. If you are maxed out, she will give your Pokémon an effort ribbon.

Don't fret too much, though, because you can use berries to adjust your stats a bit.

The Hondew Berry will reduce your Special Attack EVs, which makes it a logical starting point. You can check the rest of the EV berries here in the Gen III section.
