Is there a trick for the auctions?

Like, a method to winning, or getting low prices, etc. would saving before trying and resetting work?

The prices I get always go like 10x the base bid and it’s frustrating me

I would say there is no trick. There are just points where NPCs will no longer bid. Use the low bid every time and you will get better deals.

Save scumming has led me to find that you will typically get the best deal that way, but the difference is never dramatic enough to care.

In my experience, buying items you can purchase elsewhere is a waste of time and resources, and for special items, just expect to pay a lot from the onset.
