Does the move Skill Swap work on an ally Pokémon even if the ally Pokemon is switched out?

Does Skill Swap work on an ally even if the ally is switched out? ( I know I sound like a new player but I’m looking for a very specific strategy with skill swap ). For example, if a Xatu with Magic Coat used Skill Swap on a Greninja that’s switched out, will it work?

I don't think any move can target a Pokemon that's not on the battlefield. Is this what you're asking for?

No. The ability goes back to normal when the Pokemon is switched out.

I mean will it switch their abilities ( even though the ally is switched out ) and would it work at all.

How you use it on an ally that is switched out? I don't think that will work at all.
