I'm surprised this hasn't been asked yet. It's clear Landorus-T is a tiger and obvious Tornadus-T is a hawk or other bird of prey, but what exactly is Thundurus-T? It doesn't really look like anything specific...

In Incarnate Forme, Thundurus is based on Raijin, the kami of thunder and lightning. It may also have drawn some inspiration from Jinn.

In Therian Forme, Thundurus seems to be based on a reptile, most likely a serpent or dragon. It may also draw inspiration from the Azure Dragon (Chinese: 青龍 Qīnglóng) of the Chinese Four Symbols; the Azure Dragon represents the east, and in Hisui, Thundurus roams the eastern Cobalt Coastlands area. Additionally, it may be based on the Qilin, a mythical creature from East Asia described as having a horn on its forehead and occasionally associated with lightning.
