Is it just something that exists to be cool, and spice up his design, or does it have an actual effect in battle?

As Zenith Marshadow, its headgear, bumps and collar flare up with green yellow flames, and its eyes also flare up.

It can turn into its alternate form, Zenith Marshadow, when attacking or enraged.

When angered or attacking, such as while using its exclusive Z-Move, Marshadow's fighting spirit will begin to burn, causing it to become Zenith Marshadow. In this state, its headgear, wrist bumps, and collar flare up and resemble green and yellow flames. Marshadow's eyes also flare up when in this state, but do not change in color.

Zenith Marshadow doesn't have any actual effect in battle. (You can draw a parallel reference to shiny forms here. They don't "change" anything, per se, in a battle.) It's there to please aesthetics only.

Ah ok. Thanks!
Also, in the Anime did Zenith Form make him more powerful?
Marshadow has been romanticised a lot in the anime. It is known to understand others' feelings and mimic its opponents to eventually overwhelm them. It can also reportedly cause nightmares, which is an outlandish claim if we look at its references rationally; nowhere outside the anime this fact is mentioned.
As such, it'll be safe to assume that Zenith Marshadow might have some more "powers" than regular Marshadow, but there is no source backing up this claim.
It is also worth mentioning that Marshadow's only major stint in the anime was Marshadow M20 (I Choose You!). Outside that it has had a cameo in a few other meritless episodes.
