Could you please explain to an idiot what you mean by "still active in the background"? I'm trying to figure out that second paragraph. I'm guess the plain English version would be something like: I'm assuming that in order to activate it, Cherrim needs to be brought into the battle along with the presence of harsh sunlight but will this ability benefit the next Pokemon called into battle if they switch out? Assuming Cherrim is still "active in the background" (Whatever that means) and harsh sunlight is still present? Is that about how it would read? My confusion is that to my knowledge, Pokeballs are like airtight capsules, no abilities, moves or anything can be brought into battle from inside the Pokeball. Am I mistaken or not?
