What is meant by "breaks the mold"?

The last time I played Black, I was fighting the gym for the last badge which had Dragon-Type moves. It was hard, but I won the badge. In one of those matches, I saw a line before fighting Axew - "Axew breaks the mold!" That got me thinking, what is that?

"Breaks the mold" is the indicator of the Ability Mold Breaker, which allows the Pokemon to hit another, regardless of Ability. For example, a Mold Breaker Axew can OHKO a Roggenrola with Sturdy (which ordinarily allows it to live on 1 HP) or hit a Levitate Pokemon with Earthquake.
