To get Malamar, do you have to flip the 3ds during the level up, right after the level up, or any time after LVL 30?

Inkay has an extremely unique evolution, and I'm curious on how it works.

It evolves into Malamar starting at level 30 when leveled up while the game system is held upside-down.So,level it up while turning it upside down
