Dragonite is my favorite Pokémon, but I wanna know what he is based off of.
Dragonite resembles Japanese dragons, European dragons, or fairy dragons. Its description as the "guardian of the sea" may also suggest it has elements similar to the Chinese dragon. Similar-looking Japanese dragons exist in art done by Utagawa Kuniyoshi.
What this is saying is that it is based on dragons, however, different varieties. It resembles Japanese, European and Fairy dragons. It also has the characteristic antennae that you will usually find on chinese dragons.
