PokéBase - Pokémon Q&A

As many of you know, I love stall. I have thought about it for awhile now, and I want to create a Stall Team for the Battle Tree. However, there are a few components that are different, leading to me having multiple questions for this.

  1. How viable is stall overall? The AI does not act the same way as a normal does (e.g. rarely switching) and thus, why I am asking. Also, as a side question, how viable is stall in 3v3 singles overall?

  2. What elements of Stall are still needed and which are expendable? Being Battle Tree Singles, I am only allowed 3 Pokémon. This leads to not being able to fill roles like a cleric because of not enough team space for example.

  3. Are Hazards needed? This can be considered a sub-category of the previous question, but I want this looked into with a little more detail. As said before, the AI rarely switches, leading to only 2 Pokémon being affected by Hazards at most. If I should have hazards, will only Stealth Rock do? Should I have more?

  4. What status conditions are the most effective? With my experience so far, Toxic is a good status move to have. Would Thunder Wave and Will-o-Wisp also be good things to invest in, considering the limited space in the team? Or is just Toxic fine?

These are the major questions I have before I get into breeding Pokémon for this team, if it's viable at all. Note that I'm not asking for an entire team, just a blueprint of what to include.

Thanks in advance!

I would say it is a rather safe play style. Toxic stalling actually helped me win a lot of battles. The problem is that after like twenty or thirty battles, the ai will adapt and will use mons that destroy your team

Stealth rock will do just fine. I even use it because of some stupid focus sash nonsense ruining my day and watching Charizad lose half its life entering is always satisfying but if you're gonna toxic stall, you can pretty much forgo since you will be breaking the sash anyway
Not a full answer, but https://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/battle-tree-discussion-and-records.3587215/ There's a pretty good Gliscor/Chansey/Slowbro team that very likely counts as stall.
