Does volt switch switch out even if the user is trapped by sand tomb?

Question

I have sand tomb on my sandile and I'm just wondering if it would work against elesa's switching strategy

also another question, if volt switch has no effect on the target does it still switch?

I am sure that Volt Switch doesn't affect ground types and doesn't allow the user to switch out using the move, though I don't know about the main part of the question.

Well to answer both your questions, yes they can switch out with volt switch in sand tomb but no, they cannot switch, because it has no effect on sandile

The user will not be switched out if the user is the only Pokémon in the party that is able to battle, if Volt Switch fails to hit the target, if the opponent is not affected by Volt Switch, if Volt Switch triggers an opponent's Wimp Out or Emergency Exit, or if using Volt Switch ends the battle.

The target can still switch out if it is holding Shed Shell or uses Baton Pass, U-Turn or Volt Switch.
