Is Golduck a good option for a Platinum playthrough?

Question

I want to use a Golduck in my Platinum playthrough(The 9th time in 4 months I know I am crazy)

Is it good enough to be a solid member of the team if not suggest another one and make sure it is special to use surf I have chosen chimchar so no Empoleon(even though it is AWESOME) kindly tell is it good

Vaporeon is definitely better. You can find psyduck before eevee in Platinum though I'm pretty sure. I think an npc gives you eevee.

Well, that's not really what I meant. More along the lines that EV training and hunting for a specific Nature is time-consuming, and a lot of players just aren't going to bother with it. You usually don't need to EV train ingame, and the time you spend on it individually be better spent progressing with the game, especially if you're not going to use the Pokemon you EV train in competitive.

But I don't mean to insult you or anything, I'm just stating what I've generally seen people say. Sorry about that.

Honestly, I wouldn't say to edit that out, because someone might want that spread, so it's not useless information. Who knows, maybe the OP wants to EV train his Pokemon. So not really necessary to remove it, but I'm absolutely not the final say on that.

Calm mind and earth power are a post-game TM and post-game tutor, respectively. Sludge wave doesn't exist in Platinum.
Also every Pokemon gets better after level grinding, so level grinding is a very bad reason to use Golduck instead of a different Pokemon.

The 3 best waters in Platinum are Empoleon, Gyarados, and Floatzel. Compared to Golduck, all of them evolve earlier and have a higher attack stat. You should consider using Golduck only if you're sure you don't want to use any of those 3.

If you're sure you don't want to use any of those 3, then Golduck is a pretty good choice. You can catch Psyduck early, and its special attack is higher than most of the other early Pokemon. Another Pokemon that's almost as good as Golduck is Octillery. Its attack stats are slightly higher, and it can learn gunk shot, signal beam, and fire blast. However, Octillery comes later and is worse in its other stats. You can also teach surf to a HM slave Bibarel, so you can use physical waters like Gyarados, Floatzel, or maybe Azumarill.
