Is it still possible to shiny hunt on a new save file?

I’ve recently bought somebody’s old Pokémon white game and I deleted their old save file so I can make mine and I was wondering if it’s still possible to shiny hunt on it or am I just unlucky?

then you're just getting unlucky with shinies i'm pretty sure

Yes. The only thing that is affected is if the previous file had a shiny charm or shinies on it (they will be lost when the file is deleted).
