If so, what are the details of it?

Darkrai is a very interesting Pokémon.
What are you talking about? The games? Anime? Real life?
All of it
That's too open and vague, be specific
I've decided to narrow this down massively myself. This question should now have a clear answer no matter what.
Thanks!
Does this include PMD and Pokemon Ranger games?

Darkrai's appearance and abilities suggest it is based on the concept of nightmares. Resembling a shadow, it may also have been inspired by the bogeyman, the Greek god Morpheus, genies (or jinn), or the Oneiroi, namely Phobetor

Darkrai is a combination of dark, and 暗い kurai (dark) or "rai" (Hindi for king).

They may have been asking in an in-universe canon context rather than a creative inspiration context, which is an interesting thought considering how few legendaries and mythicals have an explained origin in canon. There’s Palkia, Dialga and Giratina, the legendary beast trio of Johto, Mewtwo, and Genesect, but other than that I can’t think of any with a specified birth or creation.
Well, Darkrai was probably created to give you nightmares, don't know why though. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@Metroid
the reason was so theyd have another besides Cresselia
Yeah, that balance stuff, one can't exist without the other.
