Can you lose items in White Treehollow?

Question

I was in level 9 of the White Treehollow and my Haxorus was paralyzed, so I gave it a berry to eat mid battle(as in held item). After he used it and finished the battle, I wanted to give him back the Focus Sash but I couldn't find it in my bag. Is this a glitch, or was I punished for using items?
Please help

No. Your Haxorus should still be holding the Focus Sash. When you use an item on a Pokemon both in and outside of battle, they don't hold it, and they don't have to drop the item that they're holding.

You can't use items in the tree you have to switch the held item with a berry so I did but then my sash disappeared
