In Pokken, what do the stars after a battle do?

Do they affect the amount of money you get or do they give some reward for getting a lot of high scores?
Or are they there for the sake of being there?

I looked around, but the only answer I could find was for challenges to unlock new titles and mission panels.  However, I won’t post this as an answer since I am not very sure.

Yes the higher the ranking the more rewards you will get at the end of the match. So obviously 5 stars would have the highest rewards.
