Uxie, The Knowledge Pokemon

Mesprit, The Emotion Pokemon

Azelf, The Willpower Pokemon

what does the lake trio mean by Knowledge,Emotions,Willpowers?

Starting with Uxie, since its the knowledge Pokemon it seems to be a really smart, defensive Pokemon but if its defensive how is it smart?

Continueing with Mesprit, Its the emotion Pokemon so does that mean it reads emotions of humans, pokemon and is mesprit strong enough to read emotions from Legendaries?

Ending With Azelf, Its the willpower Pokemon meaning it hases Extremely Rare Power? well I need more explaining for this just for a reason it hases both attack stats of 125 and other Pokemon that share the same attack stats like rayquaza hases higher attack stat then azelf, with this information I'm thinking it isnt that strong maybe because of its competitive tier being UU and ability being levitate when it isnt even weak to ground. heres the Proof it is in the UU tier and has the levitate

QUICK EDIT: What I mean is why did the writers give the lake trio these titles? Please dont hide this.

What exactly are you asking?
i saw this coming to be honest i thought this was gonna confuse poeple so im gonna make an update hellfire
Uxie has good defense stats because knowledge takes a long time to forget. Azelf does have unusually high attack stats. You're comparing it with other Pokemon that also have "rare powers", which is not fair. Azelf is in the UU tier not necessarily because it's "weak", but mostly because psychic is a bad type. Mesprit has bad stats all around because emotions aren't worth squat in battle.
im so confused.
Your question is easily answered by the Pokedex entries of Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf.
"When Uxie flew, people gained the ability to solve problems. It was the birth of knowledge." Uxie is the Knowledge Pokemon because it gave humans the ability to solve problems.

"When Mesprit flew, people learned the joy and sadness of living. It was the birth of emotions." Mesprit is the Emotion Pokemon because it gave humans the ability to feel emotions. (Or, at least, happiness and sadness.)

"When Azelf flew, people gained the determination to do things. It was the birth of willpower." Azelf is the Willpower Pokemon because it gave humans determination. Also, just because Azelf is the Willpower Pokemon doesn't mean that it should be a strong Pokemon. Willpower is a mental thing, unlike strength, which is physical.

A long time ago, there was some philosopher who thought the world was made of mind and matter, and the Generation 4 legendaries were supposed to reflect this. Their roles are pretty well summarized by an engraving on a plate.

"Two make matter and three make spirit, shaping the world."

source
So two legendary Pokemon, Dialga and Palkia, were made to embody the two dimensions of matter. Three legendaries, Uxie, Azelf, and Mesprit, were made to embody the three dimensions of mind. Their roles are further detailed in their Platinum Pokedex entries.

When Uxie flew, people gained the ability to solve problems. It was the birth of knowledge.
When Mesprit flew, people learned the joy and sadness of living. It was the birth of emotions.
When Azelf flew, people gained the determination to do things. It was the birth of willpower.

Their stat spreads were made to reflect their roles, not necessarily to be strong in battle. Uxie got good defense stats because knowledge is hard to forget, Azelf got good attack stats because willpower can overpower obstacles, and Mesprit got bad stats all around because emotions are useless in battle. All three of them suck in competitive battling (except Azelf in gen 4 OU) because psychic is a bad type.

What are you saying, Azelf can dish out pretty good hits with stab psychic, and Uxie can yawn to annoy you.
